....which is what I feel like I've been doing for the past few weeks: working (crazy, crazy hours), taking classes (and sitting in tons of lovely traffic to get there) and accomplishing one of my key goals for this year: recording my demos!
Starting a new job is stressful enough, but starting one (my demanding day job) while also trying to launch another (VO) is madness. I'm not sure how much I've slept in the last couple of months. I work. I drive. I practice. Sometimes... I even eat. And sleep. Forget about extracurriculars....dancing, surfing, flying on the trapeze....these activities must wait.
Oh, but I'm getting ahead of myself... first, a moment to celebrate these past couple of months....
.... starting a new job - and learning where the bathrooms and the coffee are located (and not mixing them up - very important)
.... taking some seriously awesome classes - and meeting some great performers, and adding new ideas and characters to my little box of voiceover tricks.
.... performing with my Improv Level 2 class - serious props to all the fun folks from my class for making improv even more fun than it already is. It's amazing how helpful improv has been to both voiceover and day job.
.... and recording my demos!!!
Recording my demos. What a great feeling to have these in the can. I spent a fun Friday afternoon putting together my animation demo, and then two days later, I spent a super Sunday recording my commercial demo. I love being in the booth, and to spend a couple of hours with all the characters I've created....for me, it's a major milestone in realizing a dream that, until a year ago, I didn't know existed. To find something creative, but also cerebral, fun and doesn't require staring at a laptop and sending emails for 14 hours a day... pretty phenomenal. And each time, after I left the studio, I seriously felt like I was flying.
I know that I'll have to return to earth (and the 187+ emails waiting for me) soon, but for now, I just want to enjoy the moment.
