Working Girl

In the corporate world, doing your job means showing up to work every day you are scheduled (and then some), and putting in the time & energy (and then some) to complete your projects. In the acting world, doing your job is auditioning, frequently, which is the corporate equivalent of interviewing a lot. So what do you call the work when you finally get hired?

The answer: play.

Over the weekend, I booked & recorded a pilot for an animated children's series, as one of its main characters, an 8 year old child. But just like interviewing is nothing like the actual job you may end up taking, recording a script is nothing like an audition. I recorded my audition at home in a few minutes, holed up in my closet/studio; for the actual record, we spent an afternoon gathered as an ensemble cast. It was such fun to interact with this talented crew, from actors, to writer, to crew. Yes, I booked a job (yay!) but it certainly didn't feel like work. It felt like play. And I loved every second of it (and then some).
